The firm of MCLEAN, YOUNKIN & WILLETT, PLLC is the result of the merger of DRYSDALE, MCLEAN & WILLETT, PLLP and YOUNKIN & WORDAL, PLLC. It brings together attorneys with a shared philosophy of providing knowledgeable and competent service to its clients as well as service to the community. With a combined total of over 50 years of legal service to their community and clients, the current members of the firm have Montana roots going back one or more generations.
Drysdale, McLean & Willett, PLLP began in 1969 as the firm of Drysdale & McLean. The partners, Douglas R. Drysdale and James A. McLean, served the Gallatin Valleywith distinction, created a law practice emphasizing civil and criminal trial work, commercial and real estate law, estate planning and probate. Mr. Drysdale retired fromthe active practice of law in 1984, turning the reigns over to Mr. McLean, who, as theSenior Partner, shepherded the firm through a succession of partners until Mr. Willettjoined the firm in 2003 and became a partner in 2005. While the firm name haschanged, the influence of its founding members still resounds within the firm.
The late Douglas R. Drysdale was a pilot in World War II and the Korean War. He received his undergraduate degree from Montana State College, now Montana State University, and graduated from the University of Montana School of Law. He served as the Gallatin County Attorney, was on the Board of Trustees for the Montana State Bar and was President of the State Bar in 1971. He was instrumental in organizing the Montana Legal Services and the Commission on Practice for the State Bar. He also taught military justice at MSU. He was active in the American Bar Association and the Jack Rabbit Bar Association (which represented several western states) in addition to his service in the Montana and Gallatin Bar Associations.
Cindy E. Younkin grew up in the Gallatin Valley and attended Montana State University, obtaining a degree in Microbiology in 1982. She was a United States Peace Corps Volunteer in the Fiji Islands from 1984-1986. She attended law school at Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon, was a summer intern for Chief Justice Jean Turnage in 1988 and earned her J.D. in 1989. After joining the Bozeman firm of Moore, O’Connell & Refling, PC, she concentrated her practice in all things involving property from estate planning and probate to farm and ranch matters, water rights and real estate transactions. She was elected to the Montana House of Representatives and served from 1999 to 2004, serving as Majority Whip and Chair of the Natural Resources Committee. In 2009 she became solo practitioner before forming McLean, Younkin & Willett, PLLC with Andy Willett. Her emphasis remains with property law related issues, focusing on Estate Planning and Probate and Farm/Ranch matters. In her free time, Cindy is a private pilot and loves to fly her 1959 Cessna 182 over Montana and surrounding states, has been an active member of the Gallatin Empire Lions Club since 1990 and “plays outdoors” in a variety of activities mostly involving water and dirt.
Andrew J. Willett is a Montana native and earned his undergraduate degree in finance and economics from the University of Montana in 1992. He worked in Denver, Colorado as a commercial loan officer for 4 years, prior to attending the University of Denver College of Law, graduating in 1999. Following graduation he worked for the law firm of Gorsuch Kirgis, LLP in downtown Denver in the real estate department. He then served as in-house counsel for a multi-state private real estate lending company prior to moving back to Montana. He joined the law firm of Drysdale, McLean & Willett, PLLP in 2003 and has been a partner since 2005. Andy's practice focuses on all aspects of real estate, entity structuring, commercial transactional law, estate planning and probate. Andy serves as a Bozeman School District Board Trustee, coaches Bozeman Legion baseball, and enjoys skiing, hunting and just about anything else involving the great outdoors.
Drew Moore Gaertner is a 5th generation Montanan. She received her undergraduate degree in Communication, with a minor in Sport Management, from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2008 where she graduated with honors and was a member of the national championship women’s club soccer team. Drew earned her J.D. from the University of Montana School of Law in 2015. During law school, she served as the president of the international legal honor society Phi Delta Phi, worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Ralph B. Kirscher at the United States Bankruptcy Court during her clinical externship, and interned at Milodragovich, Dale & Steinbrenner, P.C. Following law school, Drew earned a Master of Laws in Taxation (LL.M.) from the University of Washington School of Law where she graduated with honors in 2016. While earning her LL.M., Drew was awarded the merit based scholarship of UW Tax Scholar and was appointed a Hazelton Fellow to assist law Professor Shannon McCormack in her scholarly work. Drew joined McLean, Younkin & Willett, PLLC as an associate in 2016. Her practice emphasizes estate planning, probate & trusts, business planning & transactions, taxation, real estate and commercial law. She is admitted to practice before the Montana Supreme Court and the United States District Court of the State of Montana. Drew, her husband and daughter enjoy skiing, camping, and spending time with family and friends.
Tyler P. Mullowney is a 4th generation product of Montana. Raised in Billings, Tyler attended and graduated from Montana State University Billings in 2014 with his Bachelor of Science in Political Science. During his tenure at MSUB, Tyler was twice published for his work and contributions to the annual MSU-Billings Poll: National, State and Local Issues. Prior to attending law school, Tyler interned with the Montana Office of the State Public Defender. He attended his first year of law school at Willamette University College of Law before transferring to the University of Montana School of Law, where he graduated and received his Juris Doctor in 2017. Tyler’s law school curriculum emphasized corporate, tax, estate planning, and transactional law courses, in which he consistently received high marks. While in law school, Tyler interned with the law firm of McLean, Younkin & Willett, PLLC. Upon his admission into the State Bar of Montana, Tyler’s role in our firm transitioned into a position as an associate attorney. Tyler’s practice focuses on real estate, commercial law, estate planning, and probate. In his time outside of the office, Tyler enjoys golfing, skiing, boating, coaching youth sports, and spending time with close friends and family.
James A. McLean, a graduate of the University of Montana in 1964 and the University of Montana School of Law in 1967, served as an officer in the Marine Corps Reserve beginning in 1968 until he left the service in 1974 at the rank of Captain, was a law clerk for the 1st Judicial District Court in Helena in 1967, and has served as the attorney for Madison Valley Bank and its branches since 1968. He served as a Deputy Public Defender for Gallatin County from 1968 - 1970. He served as President of the Gallatin County Bar association from 1976-1977, and served on the State Bar Judicial Evaluation Committed in 1988 and served on the Montana Aeronautics Board. Mr. McLean's practice has focused on litigation in multiple areas, serving as chief legal counsel in numerous cases whether argued before the bench, a jury or resolved prior to trial. He has had the honor and privilege of briefing and arguing before the Montana Supreme Court as well as before the US District Court and 9th Circuit. He retired from the active practice of law in 2016 and acts as "Of Counsel" to the firm.
